bizplantastic2_500x500

Karen Gunton is the founder of Build a Little Biz, a highly popular blog where she shares about marketing, branding, and business tips. A teacher at heart, she loves teaching strategies to micro biz owners.

Bizplantastic is created as a “perfect mix of instruction, ideas, inspiration, and flexibility: your biz, your plan, your way.” The goal is to help you take your biz from vision to reality, and not only that, but to make it shine.

Expect to hone in on your vision, set goals, choose the right strategies (product, brand, marketing and sales), and create plans (year, month, week) which are then broken down into tasks (monthly, weekly, daily). Does it sound dry or boring? Karen makes sure that it is actually a fun and inspiring process. Being the teacher that she is, you can expect to get golden nuggets of wisdom from her instructions.

What you’ll get:

  • A 50-page workbook that comes with instruction, ideas, and examples that you can apply to your biz
  • Inspiration to help you stay focused and get excited about your plans

3. Your Best Year: 2014 Productivity Workbook and Creative Business Planner

2014YourBestYear_LisaJacobs

Your Best Year: 2014 Productivity Workbook and Creative Business Planner is the brainchild of Lisa Jacobs of Marketing Creativity and Energy Shop Jewelry.

Talking about the essence of the workbook cum planner, Lisa says, “It’s created with this formula in mind: Clear Priorities + Focus = Dreams Come True. It will help you clearly name your priorities, improve your focus, and make your business dreams come true!”

The first part of this tool is packed with reflective questions that will give you insights to what’s working in your life so that you can focus on doing more of that. It also helps you figure out how to get from where you are to where you want to be and improve productivity by eliminating distractions and time wasters. Expect to also set monetary goals and devise strategies to reach those goals. Look out for a list of money affirmations too.

What you’ll get:

  • 200 colorful pages of prompts, goal-setting exercises, goal-prioritizing exercises, and tough questions to help you build an organized and successful creative business
  • A personal calendar and business planner that is organized by month-at-a-glance, a weekly break-down to keep you on task, and quarterly prompts and reviews
  • A mid-year review to help you take stock, evaluate your progress, find out what’s working or not and adjust your course accordingly

With positive feedback and requests from her followers, Lisa went on to create Your Best Year: 2014 Spiritual Workbook and Dream Life Planner for those who don’t  own a business. It contains journal prompts, review and reflection exercises, and goal-organizing techniques similar to the business planner.

My experience

I’ve purchased two three of the above planners (Create An Awesome Year and Your Best Year: 2014, both biz edition, and Karen’s Bizplantastic). I’ll most likely get a copy of Bizplantastic too and use it to build strategies for specific projects that I’ll be working on for 2014.

I’m working slowly through the worksheets in the first two planners. This is the first time I’ve ever done this and I’m savouring the process. I’ve found some of the questions rather tough to answer (through no fault of the authors), especially when it comes to the money part. But as I pushed through and got honest with myself, I gained much greater clarity and insights. It’s been an inspiring process so far.

As for Bizplantastic, I’ve just purchased it and haven’t got down to it yet. But looking through the pages, I’m blown away by how much information is packed into this 51-page planner. Like the great teacher she is, Karen takes you systematically through the entire process:

vision > goals > strategies > plans > tasks

It’s like guiding you to draw up your own success roadmap, every step of the way. How cool is that.

Bizplantastic is fabulous on its own and in my case, a great complement to the other two planners. I have a feeling working through the book is going to make a big difference for my biz.

I highly recommend that you grab at least one of these planners, work through the prompts and exercises, and create your best year ever!
