Thought of the Week: Lead Yourself

Lead yourself

“… when you have clarity about your destination, you lead yourself. You do not let other people, events, or situations to lead you. As leadership pioneer Warren Bennis says, “You become authentic. The word ‘authentic’ has its root the word ‘author’. You become the author of your life rather than a copy of shadow of someone else’s. Authenticity is all about living your life to reflect what you say is important to you.

The road is not always easy, but if you know who you are, then what you want tends to show up.”

~ from the book ‘Who Are You and What Do You Want‘ by Mick Ukleja, Ph.D., and Rober L. Lorber, Ph.D.

It’s June now, half a year’s gone by. How far or close are you to reaching your goals?

If you have been feeling unproductive, overwhelmed and going round and round in circles, take a pause and ask yourself: what are you spending most of your time on? Are you working on your goals or someone else’s agenda?

Answer that question with all honesty. It will give you insights to why you have not been achieving your goals and why you are where you are today.

But on the brighter side of things, we still have six more months to the end of the year! If you have veered off course, you don’t have to beat yourself up. Just get yourself back on track and keep your eyes on the end goals from now on. You will get there.

Or maybe circumstances have changed and the goals you set in the beginning of the year don’t serve their purpose anymore, then give yourself time to set new goals. Or maybe you didn’t even set any goals, start thinking about it now. It’s never too late.

What’s important is that you know where you are headed. Or else, you are merely drifting along in life, and what’s worse is that you could end up living someone else’s dreams instead of your own.

So take a pause this June to be with yourself and reflect on the past six months.

Have a beautiful week, my friends!
